linux driver call?


Hi all,
I would like to find out how the kernel calls the driver, specifically the the functions, and whether i need to write an application for that, please advise me, thanks in advance.

all drivers are called differently. what do u want to do? in most cases you register a function to service an event.

There are different types of drivers. O'Rielly has a free book on-line called Linux Device Drivers that shows how to write them and has examples for accessing them.

i'm actually trying to write a smart card reader driver in Linux, so I just wasn't sure how the system calls it's drivers. The smart card reader driver would fall under character device driver wouldn't it?

That depends on the meaning U are putting in "smart card". But probably yes.
