linux debugger and IDE

I used Borland C enviroment, but now, how i switched to linux i'm having problems to understand gdb. isn't there any console-type (i don't like xfree) enviroment with a buildin debugger? Can i use gdb to screen all the source code and see where i'm at a moment?

cgdb - a curses-based interface to the GNU Debugger (GDB)
ddd - The Data Display Debugger, a graphical debugger frontend
kdbg - Graphical debugger interface
kdevelop - An IDE for Unix/X11
xxgdb - A X front-end to the GNU debugger gdb
xwpe - Programming environment and editor for console and X11
gvd - GNU Visual Debugger
insight - Graphical debugger based on GDB
motor - C/C++/Java Integrated Development Environment

"wpe" (console) or it's brother "xwpe" (X-version) is a Borland look-alike.
I prefer emacs though...

The Bastard ( http://bastard.sf.net/ ) has a nice ncurses front-end, though it is alpha software =( ( at the moment =) ). Michal Zalewski has a whole range of fun stuff based in Fenris ( http://lcamtuf.coredump.cx/fenris/ ), which is also fairly powerful.

Unhappy

Well the only problem with gdb is that it seems difficult to use it.
I'm trying to use kdevelop's internal debugger (which is gdb right?) and it just fails...
I'm setting up an environement to use Crystal Space (3D gaming). I found a nice tutorial here http://crystal.sourceforge.net/docs/...127.php#SEC316 that allowed me to set up kdevelop for just that. Then I can compile and run from kdevelop. But I can't debug. When I start a debug cession it just very stupidly can't find my source file... when it is just displayed in front of my eyes! And I can't find a place to tell gdb where to look...
BTW I'm using kdevelop 2.1.5 and Mdk 9.2
