kdevelop project packaging

Hi,
I wanted to use the project packaging tool that's integrated with Kdevelop, but I have been unable to get it working. I tried creating a source archive from the dialog, but it exited with errors. so i executed a `make dist' from the command line and a source archive was created. then i went back to the dialog, went to to the second tab, project packaging and tried creating a binary package, but it just says `create source archive first' and exits.
does anyone know how to use that tool? cud you please tell me where i am going wrong? i tried a google search, and this subject has been covered in many workshops, but strangely enough there's no tutorial on the net. or atleast i couldnt find one, and i searched through 10 pages of google links.
so if someone cud point out a tutorial for this, or any other pointers, it'll be very helpful.
thanks in advance.
