Internal PC speaker system-wide behaviour.

Linux kernel 2.6, Slackware 12.0

Hi:
I want the internal PC speaker be permanently muted that is, from the
time I have turned on the machine and it has finished booting the O.S.,
up to the time when the O.S. is beeing shutdown. What would
be a proper way to do this? Any suggestion would be welcome. Thanks for
reading.

Hi,

You can blacklist the pcspkr module. Edit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf and add a line
Code:
blacklist pcspkr

Your post has proved to be both useful and enlight-
ening. But I want to answer two hypothetical questions:
(a) Could I solve the problem? (b) In case I could,
how did I do it?

The answer to (a) is yes. The machine speaker no
longer beeps, except when the BIOS is in charge. As
to (b), I edited /etc/rc.d/rc.modules, after looking
for the string 'pcspkr' and finding it. I was refered
to that file by the comments in /etc/modprobe.d/
blacklist (sic). Thanks and regards.
