HTML/PHP question

I'm trying to improve some stuff in base (a snort addon).

I need to have a checkbox, in a form, that will enable/disable a text field.
If the checkbox is checked, you may write to the text field. If not the the text field is disabled.
Can I do that in html/php or do I need javascript, or anything like this.
PLEASE,PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

I don't know much about about web-programming and I don't like it either. I found it easy to change some basic stuff in php (because the syntax looks like C, my favorite language).

You could do it in php and html but it would require the page to be reloaded. If you do it with javascript it will be done on the client side.

Thanx for your reply.
To force reloading I would have to use javascript. I haven't found a way to do this without javascript, and i don't want to add javascript in a project that is written only in php. SO I just put there the text input and if it is posted blank, I ignore it. Thanx again for your reply.
