HowTo Control/log all ext. connections to the machine(ssh, ping, ...)against Hackers?

netstat / iptable ... skype, ekiga, ... auth.log, ... how to control every single ext. "bad" or attempts to the linux machine?

+ an host of the IP would be perfect to be logged ...

look at iptables (control) wireshark (log - sort of) pcap (code)
