How to write into the clipboard?

IŽd like to write a little script or a program that generates a special string. At the end IŽd like to write this string into the clipboard so that I can make a paste for example in kwrite or OpenOffice.

My question: How is it possible to write directly into the clipboard without using the copy command?

Thanks in advance,
