I am a newbie to linux programming. I as a student have completed the course in linux programming and device driver programming but no professional experience.

Suppose there are two sound cards on a systems. How as a mp3 software developer will I know whose api's to use and how will I get connected to those api's. Please let me know where will I find the api's for interface between a device driver and an application software.

Thanks in Advance,
Regards,
Ravi

I'm no expert but I think that most device drivers have no API, as such. looking at the header for the device driver(kernel module) should give you most of what you want.

If your referring to building a media player through the cdrom or if want to burn audio data, you could use the cdrom.h interface. I think this is the interface I know that is somewhat related to mp3.
