How to start gtk?

hello.I wanna use gtk to build a GUI application.after reading the gtk tutorial, i don't know where to start. My question are:

1. Is the gtk has been installed in Linux or user have to download it and install?
2. Is .gtk a program as Qt or just a library?
3. where to write the coding. Is it in the console/terminal?

Can anybody help me

1. GTK would be installed if you chose to install it when you installed your distro. If you installed GNOME, you'd probably have it installed.

2. I think it's just a library. Qt is a library too, AFAIK (but it does come with an application to develop GUI apps. I think it's called Qt Develop/Designer or something).

3. You write code in any text editor (vi, emacs, gedit, etc), save it and then compile.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong about any of the above.

1. gtk has to be installed unless it was installed by the distro
2. gtk is just a library set no graphical interface like qt-dev
3. codeing is right into your c program or c++ program
