How to set the $PATH on command line?

export? set? or else?

I tried 'set PATH=/bin/' but not work.

export PATH="path stuff"
or to ADD to the path:
export PATH="$PATH; added stuff"

You'll need a colon not a semi.

For example

PATH=$PATH:/home/John/progs

export PATH
