How to Debug an application

Hi,

I am new to open source community, and doesn't know much place to ask this question. First if you know any quick response place where I should ask such question please let me know..

now, my question is ..

I have to write a Module for Open source Courier (MTA ) Application, for custom authentication, Courier provide an interface for this, they have already make some dummy function in c++ to just write a code and use them.

but I doesn't know how to Compile and Debug that, I write a sample printf statement in one of function, that I thought will be called by it, but to test it I have to complie full courier and its Authentication library....

Can any one please TELL ME HOW TO DEBUG A C++ CODE IN LINUX.

Thanks

First of all, you can put your question to relevant space. As names are such that you yourself can decide where to post.

Secondly, you can use Debugger like GDB.
Help on GDB is easily availabe. Just google it.

Hi,

I know I have posted it wrong, or maybe not :(

I know about the few debugger (not use any though), what I need is that I am working on module "authcustom" for courier (http://www.courier-mta.org) what I know to test my code is compile authcustom, compilet courier (only one time though ), start application than telnet to test my code ...

Is this a little bigger process to test a spelling mistake or something ..:(

also Please help me with my second question following this ..

Thanks
