how can i get system information?


i want to write code that displays system info like current users logged in, processes running, etc. etc.

does anybody knows any system call(s) for this job that confirms to posix.

i do not want to use /proc.

function - "sysinfo" in linux doesn't confirms to posix.

For users logged in and running processes you could use snmp. By default net-snmp comes with the host resources mib (if I remember correctly). Not sure if your distro comes with it preinstalled or not. You will also need net-snmp-utils or something, can't remember the package name. But you can get a lot of useful things out of snmp.

thanks for taking interest in my problem.
i have a very little knowledge about snmp / net-snmp.
i shall inform you after experimenting with it.

can i get memory usage, free disk space, processor type & speed also by using snmp?
