How can capture packets from a LAN using C/C++ & do the following operations:

Hi all,

I need a C/C++ program by which I can show the following parameters:

1. How much traffic is transferred within a LAN.
2. What types of traffic is transferred within a LAN.
3. How much traffic is generated within a LAN and from which system.
4. How much traffic and which system or application is causing bottleneck.
5. How high is peak traffic and when does it peak.

N.B.: Operating System-- Mandriva or Mandrak

If anybody have any information please inform me.Please post the mail by email "mostafijur_embedded@yahoo.com".

Thanks

sounds a lot like homework which we aren't here to do, and also we aren't just going to give you entire programs to do this, really doesn't make sense. i'll say you might want to look at libpcap to get started though.

and don't ask for private email repsonses, that's just rude.

libpcap is probably what you want as a diagnostics oriented tool. For long term trend and volume monitoring, iptables can provide quite a few statistics. Why does the language implementation matter?
