Hi,

I'd just like to ask you a few questions first...

1) Why would you like to do that? *security risk*

2) Why don't you just use the root account instead (as long as you aren't connected to the 'Net. As suggested below, use 'sudo' instead - I think it's great, and I haven't even touched the root accound on my laptop :D)?

:D

For a less philosophical point of view ;-), you can use SUDO. A very good program you can tune (almost easily) to grant various kind of access...

I was juz wondering whether a recovery tool is possible if the password ia lost ( other than doing it by rebooting).

Oh, in other words privilege escalation. That's generally considered hacking/cracking, and may be frowned upon in these forums...although there are ways to do it if you really have lost your root password.

Easiest way if you have physical access is when at the boot loader, get it to boot into single user mode and then change the root password from the shell prompt.
