gdb crashes when debugging pthread-ed program

We are running our application on an Octagon GX1 based SBC running Linux Kernel 2.6.5. We are using pthreads and whenever we attempt to debug in gdb we get a segementation fault. I wrote a test program with only a main and a couple of cout's and linked it with pthreads and it also crashed on the GX1; however, when I don't link with pthreads it run in gdb just fine. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.
