gcc for osx without xcode

This is really an extension of a previous post...

Does anyone know if there's a way to get gcc on osx without xcode? Or, is there another free c++ compiler that could be used in place of gcc on osx?

Thanks!

You can try to install Metrowerks, and then build GCC from source, but from what I've come up with on Google, xcode and the Apple built GCC is the best way to go.

you can access gcc and g++ using the terminal in OS X.
Atleast I dont remember installing them if I ever did that.
Also eclipse is free compared to codewarrior.

I hope I understood your question.

No, I really don't think that you can. A default installation of OS X doesn't have gcc.

@ Jmite: out of curiousity, what do you have against Xcode?

Well my os x is 10.3.9, so maybe the newer intel ones do not support gcc or g++ by default.
Also I found a lot of the stuff I needed for development in the developer folder.

Its been a very long time since I reinstalled OS X so I cant really say how I got gcc or g++. But currently I can definitely access both of them through the terminal, and I wouldnt live without that facility.

What I have against xcode is that I need to give my name, address, and personal information to sign up for an account just to download a free program. I don't like giving out personal information.

Thanks!

Lie. Use an anonymous Yahoo/Gmail/Foobar email account and a fake name.

Or, again, you don't need to register at all: get it from your installation discs.
