Game Development in the D programming language...

Hi

As the title suggests, we (me and my bro) want to do develop stuff in D, particularly games. I know that this programming language has a small community (if you can even call it that oO), but we tried the language and really want to use it if possible (e.g. handling with arrays is so straight-forward!). AFAIK, libraries written in C can be used with it.

We already know the DSource.org page, and would love to hear what good game engines are usable for D (or also for C if it's worth wrapping the functions ;)). Please note that this will be our first experience with game engines.

I already tried to install Yage, for that I need to install the Tango standard library, but it won't install into my home directory with DSSS... if anyone could help with that, I would appreciate it.

If someone is interested in joining our projects, please write a PM. We will start with a little shooter to try out engines and stuff, then we will try to create an ((M)M)ORPG.

When people like us decide to program a game, artwork, models, animations, sounds etc. are always needed (I can compose music, but additional tracks are welcome, of course). If you want to contribute, don't hesitate to PM me if you are a creator, or write in this thread if you know good resources or are a creator and make your stuff public. Needless to say, quality is important.

Finally, an important condition for our development plans is that our projects will be Free Software, which means:
The source code we write will be licenced under a GPL licence, everything else under a Creative Commons licence. External resources have to be licenced like that or similarly as well.

Regards,
"Titan"

tell me how it goz

Thank you for your reply. My level? I tried to sound professional, so you should guess I'm a pro :P *joking*. Actually, I'm not much further than a beginner, but I already played around with SDL+OpenGL in D, imitating the "NeHe" tutorial (a must-know for OpenGL learners) until like the 5th chapter. The syntax of D is usual to me because I already coded a few thousand lines with C++.
  • The DProgramming.com link could be a good ressource, I will have a closer look at it when necessairy (right now I'm looking for a good engine).
  • The DigitPress link almost looks good, but it doesn't look like a place where you upload CC-licenced material.
  • The animation/drawing stuff is good, but too much orientated on 2D games. We want to do 3D programming (yes, programming stuff in 3D is real hard - even if we use an engine - but we're determined and won't admit that we can't do 3D programming unless our project fatally fails...)
  • The Tic-Tac-Toe thread surprised me. There is a lot of stuff like tutorials that show how to make these little games, so I don't see why I should look further into it. But thanks anyway.
As you can see, your reply was not what I hoped, which doesn't mean that it was bad or anything. If I don't get what I want, I'll go back to C++ which just works, but I'll try to get a hold of the D language first.

Keep the replies coming, even if they might not be very helpful.

Yours,
"Titan"

Again not what I wanted, but I can't expect too much from here, I guess... If someone has something that I might want, I'll still like to hear it in this thread, but for now I will try to turn to a more D-related forum.

Thank you for your efforts.
