I was trying to find some free compilers for fortran..im not all that proficient with fortran and so i thought if i were able to find a good compiler with help and documentation it would be good. anyone who knows where i can download fortran compilers from please let me know..also is there a compiler for linux such as Kdeveloper for C++ equivalent to Visual C++., for fortran.
i also have a licensed version of visual fortran from compaq ..i want to use that though it is not supported for linux.. anybody knows of patches that can be useful for this purpose..
the intel fortran compiler for linux is available free for personal use from their site. gcc has a fortran77 compiler(g77) but does not yet support fortran 90 or 95. Kdevelop is not a compiler, it is an ide, there is no reason why you couldnt configure it for fortran although why people use kdevelop/visual c++/etc is beyond me. you might be able to run the compaq compiler under wine.
hello
i tried looking in the intel website for a free fortran compiler but i couldnt find any ..it would be really great if you could send me a link or something to download the compiler. also i tried to run compaq visual fortran with wine. i dunno what it does..like it tried to install the software and then said i need a java machine and then just ended abruptly..if u can clarify on that as well it will be awesome.
thanks a lot
The Intel one is good. It is free. Note that the one on their site is an older version, builkt for an older glibc version. You have to get the latest version by subscribing to Intel Premier Support (free), after which you'll be given a URL to get the latest version.
Does anybody knows whether one can find gcc-g77-3.3.3-43.i586.rpm?
The problem with the latest distribution of Suse9.1 is that they have gcc-3.3.3-43 and they do not have g77 with a matching version. The closest existing version for g77 is 41. Trying to install the latter creates a flurry of dependency complaints. You know the story.
I will appreciate it very much if somebody can give an advice. I cannot change the version of my gcc (it is 43) because I bought the computer with pre-installed suse9.1 But I desperately need fortran. Is it possible to compile it from source instead of searching for a non-existing rpm with the proper version and dependencies? If it has to be done form scratch, the could you give some advise of how to do it.
