form field in html to have permanent value


hi,

How do i set a field in a form with a value that can not be changed.

why would you want that? if it is never ever going to change, then just have an input which is type=hidden. quite how this could be that useful i wouldn't know...

thanks for the reply.

the way this is used, i am trying to demonstrate a function of a database, that returns values using the value entered in the field. i am doing this using PHP. i could just leave the field for the user to enter the value, but i dont want that, as i dont want them to access all the record, only the records i want them to see.

I would like to see the field with values in it, but for them not to be able to alter it.

well don't use an input at all then.... just hardcode the sql query or whatever...

do you not think that maybe you should have acutally said it was a php question first?
