Few Question in Programming on Linux

Hello All,

I have few general question about programming in Linux platform.

1. if we run some application software or any tools on Linux Platform, so times you may have seen hanging, how do we debug this kind of issues on Linux? Is there any way to debug to find where it hangs and all that stuff?

2. Typically I used to see Core-dump on Linux while running some application (you can consider xyz software) how can we debug to find out where the issue is, may be the issue from Linux or issue from software or the issue from machine itself etc...., how can we debug core-dump and all that stuff.

Please let me know, thanks in advance.

Thanks & Regards
Dayalan

Linux offers many great tools for troubleshooting and profiling. "Gdb" is one. "Strace" is another that might be of interest:

'Hope that helps .. PSM

PS:
Regarding your question about "how compilers work", please consider getting a copy of the classic "Dragon Book":

"Compilers: Principles, Techniques and Tools, 2nd Edition",
Aho, Lam, Sethi & Ullman
<= I wasn't aware that there was a new, 2nd Edition until I googled it just now...
