experiences with embedded mysql? XML instead of a database?

i'm trying to decide whether or not to use embedded mysql in my C program. the only advantage i can see is it eases installation hassle for people who don't have a mysql server installed.

does anyone have experience with embedded mysql? what do you see as the advantages/disadvantages?

also, i see a lot of commercial apps use XML instead of a database. i don't think XML will be sufficient for my needs, but what are your thoughts on this?

use XML instead of a database
XML is a markup language, database is a software app to store data. How do use use a language to replace a software app?
You got to store your data somehow right, even with XML?
