Ethernet testing

Hi,

On our embedded solution we want to test the Ethernet hardware without actually connecting it to a server (this would require too much infrastructure). In our previous projects that did not use Linux, we used a look back cable and tested that we could send and receive.

However, now with Linux we need to know if you can use a loop back cable for testing?

thanks,
Rich

Rich,

I'm not sure your question is necessarily a Linux one but a networking one. If you have an Ethernet port that you wish to test. You should be able to test it with a loop pack cable. Weather the hardware is running Windows, OSX, Linux, and IOS it should not matter. Just make sure you have the right lookback type and you should be all set.

Good luck

Thanks. I looked through the driver, is there a way in Linux to get the low level send/receive functions without editting the driver?
