emulate linuxquestions my posts

We have a need to show users the history of the directorynames/filenames they have accessed (because of their very precise and technical names) so that they can easily and unambiguously "click" on the one they want to re-visit without having to worry about its exact spelling. Good examples of what we need are "My Posts" or "My Threads" in linuxquestions.org.

I need to get a broad understanding of how it works, can anyone make suggestions, links explaining the subject or any other info?

Thank you for your help.

Use a database. Associate a user-id with zero or more thread-ids.

If you're using bash, there is a quite comprehensive system of commandline recall, over and above the well-known up/down-arrow keys (start with 'ctrl-r'). Also, there is the bash history (type 'history') and tab-completion to help overcome complex and lengthy typing.
