Embedded GLIBC problem

I am trying to upgrade GLIBC on compact flash that had LFS 4.0(GLIBC2.2.5). I got GLIBC 2.3.2 to compile. I had to strip the libraries to make them fit. I had set the prefix to /mnt/cf1/usr. I chrooted to just the cf drive. I then tried to ldconfig the system. I then recieved an error about GLIBC_PRIVATE. After that compact flash was unusable and I had to reload the cf from saved image. Looking at the documentation on new GLIBC GLIBC_PRIVATE is supposed to be an improvement, but now I am unable to upgrade. Does anybody know how to upgrade now?
