Emacs: sgml mode

I love emacs and would like to use it for everything, but SGML mode (and derived modes, XML, PHP, HTML, whatever) sucks. The problem is indenting. I want to tab over a tag but it won't let me. VERY ANNOYING. If my LITHP were better I might be able to fix it, but here we are

. Has anyone else run into this? Any solution? (please don't tell me to RTFM or STFW cause I already did that (maybe I just don't know what to look for))

maybe you guys can just tell me what you use to edit HTML/PHP/XML files?

what I do is, the first time, i indent by hand...using spaces...then from the next time, tab works...say I got something like this,

<head>
          <title>some title</tite>
</head>
          <some tag>

the space before title is done by hand where as space before "some tag" comes when you type tab.

Yeah, I love emacs too, but I have some problem on sgml-mode's color.
