Download manager programming

I have been thing about writing a download manager for myself. I searched Google for relevant docs. All I got are some well-written GUI download manager program and the libcurl library. But, what I really want to have are a simple command program which can just do the work, and some relevant programming docs. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks!

`to learn from the experience' would be my guess.

So I suggest rather than build another download manager,
take the wget sources and make it better, add some cool features

You take the experience + you don't waste your time
