Does libfam library bundles fam daemon with it

I am wrting a fam client to monitor set of files. I have the libfam library and fam.h header file.
Could someone clear my doubt whether i need a separate fam daemon installed for libfam ( assuming my linux does not contain fam package) to communicate or libfam library bundles the fam daemon with it.
