Question Device driver conventions

Hello,

This is my first post here, and I hope I dont do anything that is considered wrong

I am in the progress of writing some drivers for different ADC chips (both I2C and SPI variants). These are ADC chips (I2C chip LTC2487, for example) that sample voltage, temperature, etc. And I wonder if there are any defined conventions or preferrances for these types of drivers? For digital IO chips I have used gpiolib, which I believe is the best way (correct me if I'm wrong, please). Is there a similar lib or convention one should follow for ADC-ish drivers, or is standard char devices OK for these?

Best regargs

Thanks a lot for the pointer. Comedi looks like the way to go for our needs.

Best regards
