I currently use Windows95/NT4 and Visual Studio 97 to develop C and C++ applications.
Rather than paying MS shed-loads of cash to update to the latest versions, I'd rather switch to an OS that can print "Hello World!" in less than 16K of executable code (plus libraries)!
Is there anything in the Linux world that operates along the lines of the Visual Studio "integrated development environment"? i.e. source code editor with keyword highlighting, compiler and linker integration, version control, error highlighting, source-level debugging, breakpoints, watch etc.
I'm considering Red Hat 7.1 or 7.2 as the OS.
kdevelop does all of that, and it's free. it's included with most distro's or go here for more info. www.kdevelop.org
Took a quick peek at the web site.... Just what I was looking for.
Thanks for the advice,
