Dbmopen problem

Hi folks,

I have some scripts running on perl 5 on my isp. I am using hash databases and using dbmopen/dbmclose to access them.

I have FC1 running perl 5.8 on my local server for development. I downloaded the dbm files from my isp and tried to open them in the local copy of the scripts. It Failed.

Am i missing some module or library ?

Is there any way to open hash databases created in perl 5 in perl 5.8.

You might get an answer at www.perlmonks.com, although it would be a good idea if you posted the exact code and errormsg when you do.
Perl 5.0 is pretty old, you should really try to talk your ISP into upgrading....

well it is a mini MIS that is on the ISP server.

Code nippet on isp

dbmopen(%SDB,"ship",0600) or die("Cannot open ship db. $!");

this does not give an error.

the same snippet on perl5.8 ( on FC1) gives the following error

cannot open at line 4

there is no more elaborate error. I am testing the script on the hash prompt. The database has 777 permision for testing.

I suspect it may have to do something with DBM versions or so... but cannot put the finger on it.
