Curses - Colour in terminal windows

Hi

I recently installed the curses library on Mandrake 8.1. I am able to run some example files from "Linux Programming", however I can not execute the one with color.

When I try to execute it, I get Error or Error - no color support on this terminal

I have tried both KDE and Gnome, and different shells such as XTerm etc.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
