Creating a True master volume control slider

I would like some advice on the difficulty in creating a simple program containing a slider that changes the volume for all the controls on my soundcard at the same time. A link to a tutorial would be helpful as I know nothing about linux programming all I know is some c and c++ dos stuff from windows and VB + Delphi.

Boffy

P.S. I posted a similar post in general but it was becoming programming related so i felt it would be better here now.

the beautiful thing about linux is you have all the code available to you
just get the code to the mixer you are using now and change it to do what you want
it should be easy
to state a linux axiom -- no need to reinvent the wheel
