Creating A torah (bible) for linux

I would like some feed back if possible, I would like to create a torah for linux in the similar fashion as gnome sword. i admit i know very little about programming (pretty much nothing) but would be willing to learn for such a project. And no,, i don't expect it to be an overnight project.. Some suggestion as to where to begin would be nice.. Opinion as to what language to learn and use would be greatly welcome

Thanks in advanced

Moshe

Depends on how far you want to drill down. Gnomesword makes
use of the sword libs ( http://www.crosswire.org/sword/index.jsp )
which - from memory - will kind of tie you down to C++ or perl
as the "weapon of choice". The greatest advantage would be that
you could re-use their existing text material, and it still has
lots left to learn, it certainly won't be a no-brainer to whip up
a gui and tie it in with the sword libs.

The biggest issue for the project really would be the electronic
version of the text, numbering and indexing, and such if you want
to start from scratch.

Cheers,
Tink
