Thumbs down Convert Excel spreadsheet to Open Office.

Hi there.

I am the President of LaDads - a group in Louisiana that promotes Shared Parenting and a Linux newbie.
ladads.org
A while back, I had developed an EXCEL spreadsheet to assist people getting divorced in Louisiana to calculate their child support obligation. The spreadsheet is available as a free download at:

http://www.ladads.org/Child_Support_...sheet_v2.1.xls

The problem is that most of the people who need this program don't have EXCEL and can't afford it. I wrote it in excel in the first place because I don't have programming skills and it puported to create an on-line XML page that people could use directly from the web site.

That proved to not be true. Because while I could put an XML sheet up, the person had to have an Microsoft Office license to use it (next to worthless).

So I have gotten ambitious and am trying to switch over to Linux and OpenSource software to solve the problem.

If you know of any easy fixes or have any hints on how to quickly get this ported over into an easy to distribute free program, that would be great.

Nicholas James

So what is a good way to direct folks to the Openoffice site to use the program. and/or put it all on a CD for easy use?

Checkout the Open CD http://theopencd.org/

Full of open source software for windows: The GIMP, Firefox, Blender, etc. - strangely the one that seemed to excite a few folks were 'PDF Creator'.

I usually have a couple of copies around, to hand out.
