color in dialog --textbox

I am trying to display a formatted list like this:
Code:

dialog --msgbox <file> 20 80
I want to display the date fields in bold RED if they match the current date, but the \Zb\Z1 22-SEP-09 \Zn in my file all just gets printed out literally.

The color displays fine if i use a msgbox widget:
Code:

dialog --msgbox "$(cat <file> | column -t -c 3)"
but the formatting gets messed up and all my columns are unevenly spaced.

Any ideas? I have to use crappy dialog because the front end i'm designing needs to be accessed via ssh.

Figured it out.. I can use --colors --no-collapse --msgbox and get my colors and formatting...

guess i should have exhausted the man page..
