Can I get some help with a huge project? *details inside*

Hi guys.
I have a huge personal project.
I want to follow in the footsteps of the developers of Unix.
Want language(s) would they have used?
Want hardware would have been available?
And any suggestions/comments/contributors would be appreciated.

I apologize.
I want to start off like the developers of the original Unix did.
I want to strip a computer down to what they would have had, and use the programming languages they would have used.

They used assembler language and C. The C language didn't exist until they created it for the purpose of creating an OS.

I feel stupid -.- Thanks guys.

IMHO everyone has the _right_ to be stupid _sometime_.
If you really want to follow someone I would suggest Linus, he is thick skinned (or thick skulled) as he himself would say :)
I remember one of his quotes in one of the kernel releases and it said that the primary goal of writing kernels was to have fun. as long as you are happy doing your thing I think it is fine - even if you take the RAM out of the slot and put it under a microscope literally - like me :)

Hmmm. To be sure there's nothing to apologize for. Besides there are not stupid questions. Not asking, that's stupid.
