c++ and Java specification

Hi,

- I know that, exists several types of JVM, but the more known version comes from Sun. But, who defines Java Language Specification, is it Sun or any other organization?

- Why, there isn't any company like Sun, that defines one standard type of C++ API? This wouldn't save time for C++ programmers? If we had an institution that builds some C++ packages like, for example, sockets API, the C++ programmer wouldn't have the necessity to build an API for each C++ project. It would exist a standard API for everyone to use.

- Who defines C++ specification?

- Who regulates the C++ specification?

Thanks,

Sun controls the development of Java
C++ is defined by an ISO standard for which you can pay large sums of money to get your hand on, or you can download the latest draft from here, the available standards can be seen here

Another organization.
Since 1998, the Java specifications are discussed and defined by the Java Community Process which, while being sponsored by Sun, is open to everyone.

Many hardware and software companies are JCP members.
