bluecoat proxy P.I.T.A. ??

i run a linux server that runs perl scripts that auto download images for storage in our database. now the persons that take care of the proxy just installed new bluecoat boxes. now these proxies aren't playing nice with my cli request to download. could this be a conflict with ports. i tested with galeon and was able to gain access thru with no problem but i can not ping nor can i wget or lwp::useragent any web content outside of the proxies. i am telling per to use lwp::useragent and http_proxy=*.*.*.*:8080. that works with galeon but not my *.pl scripts. i have done a tcpdump and confermed that http proticals are being used but i am getting access denied. does anyone have a suggestion??
