Bloodshed IDE on Linux... WHO is with ME?
 

I would like to start a project to port the bloodshed Dev-C++ IDE to Linux, originally Dev-C++ was written in Borland Delphi so it should be eaisly portable using Kylix (which I am having trouble installing) or any other Delphi environment...there is only one problem..... I do not know Delphi....
but What I would like to know is: Why hasn't anyone done this yet and ... how hard could it be?

Also if anyone is good with delphi and wants to get in on this Idea please let me know!

hey man i visited the bloodshed irc and asked them if i could do it, this was like a couple of days ago. anyway i saw on their sourceforge site that the linux version was really old, and i asked if i could do a port of the their current one. they said that it contained alot of win32 specific code so it would be tedious to do the job, but if youre up to it, we can do this. porting is easy, just takes time is all.

Heh wow its been a whiole since I first posted that but yeah I figure I need something to do in the spare time.... I know Borland has a Delphi programming enviroment for Linux but its only guarenteed to work with Red Hat 7.3, So We either have to install redhat 7.3 on something (yuk) or figure out how to jury rig it to work with another linux distro. Personally I use Slackware 10.0....I dunno tho are ther any other delphi programming enviro's for linux?

I know one called Free Pascal. We could use that along with GTK for conversion. This is gonna be a tedious task heheh. Should be fun though. Right now i trying to create a build of the RHIDE ide for Slack. That was my favorite IDE back in my old days of Dos, along side DJGPP.

Why to bother? Bloodshed is not that good an IDE to spend our time on it.
I think it's better to concentrate on the existing one - kdevelop, to make it better, intuitive and if necessary to include some features borrowed from Bloodshed or based on it.
There are too many c/c++ IDEs for linux - anjuta, eclipse, kdevelop, emacs and others. There absolutely no need to add a new one.

luckily we are in a world called linux where there are many options, and that is your opinion so if you dont like it, dont use it. im in for the fun, and plus i like bloodshed better than kdevelop. kdevelop too much stuff on it.

yeah honestly Kdevelop isn't bad for a C++ enviroment but it does have too many features... So hfar out of any IDe I have used (even comerical over priced ones) Bloodshed is the best, Though if we did modify Kdevelop we could turn it into a bloodshed clone ...... which might save time and effort.

Hmm. Thats an interesting an idea, we could try that too.

Porting Dev-C++ to Linux

I would **love** to see a Linux port of Dev-C++! I'm not enough of a dev to help with coding it, but I'd be **very** willing to test it! :-)
I'm able to run the latest (Windows) version of Dev-C++ under Wine, but it is ***SLOW! ***
Okay, so there are already C++ IDEs in Linux, but *none* of them are easy for newcomers. I find all of them to be real "overkill" - very intimidating. Dev-C++ has an *excellent* layout! Clean, simple ...
ahhhhhh ...... :-)
So, if anyone's keen to start the port, count me in as a tester!
