Wow, put the brakes on.

First, it's a common mistake among people to get the interpretation between the use of logical AND and the common language use of the word "and" confused. If someone were to look at the post and claim, as I thought you were stating, that the double ampersand meant "create the directory and cd into it regardless" that demonstrates the very confusion between common language and programming I referred to.

Second, being a forum to share knowledge and information, it is not beyond the realm of possibility for that very question to arise. I've seen similar questions raised in other threads that are tantamount to misunderstandings of the basic, fundamental concepts. What happens in those cases? Generally someone explains why or how the concept in question is not applicable or where the poster has an incorrect assumption.

Third, I have no idea of your personal background at all. There is no signature on your post to say "I am a scripting expert since 1980" nor is there any statement in your original post to lead me to that conclusion.

Any patronising tone or impression you received from that post is an invention of your own, because there was no intent or design to include it on my part. I was simply trying to be helpful in explanation.

EDIT:
Because the original problem encountered by this post is long gone, and there is little to be gained from continuing (especially if it devolves into a flaming contest), I'm reporting my own thread to be closed. Let it sit in the archives and provide what help it can through there.

Let's not get personal fellas. This was a very good discussion, if it begins to turn south, it will be closed.

Remember that any definitions or lessons that you feel are unnecessary for the current discussion will always benefit the LQ community long afther this thread dies.
