bash script start rtorrent on specific tty

writing a bash script to start/stop rtorrent at specific times each day. Process works but I cannot view rtorrent because it is running in some anonymous subshell and I don't know how ro access it.

Is there a means of making rtorrent start on a specific tty in the script? Alternatively, is there a means of bringing it to a specific tty from wherever it is by manual commands?

Run it in a 'screen' session instead? 'man screen' for more nfo (and probably searching LQ for examples / screenrc / scripts).
