is there a way to schedule the vmstat etc and run them according to the memory available and write their results to file? i just wanted to access the results through a dialog box.

the processes themselves should be automated, the access of results isn't. is it possible to do something like this using bash?

How about you start experimenting to see what is/is not possible and how you might go about implementing something that works for you?

well what I want to know is, is it possible to assign a sort of memory value to them using ulimit and then to have the processes run based on priority in a type of producer-consumer problem and write their current values to file?

You're talking about a resource scheduler. I already provided a couple of suggestions for ones to look into.

This whole heavy resource process scheduling question seems completely unrelated to the original question though, how to run a few lightweight command line utilities automatically. It would help if you keep them separate.
