Open an xterm session and type: su -c 'yum update' rovide root's password when prompted.
Be prepared for a long session of updating since most of the packages have been updated at least once since Fedora Core 5 was released.

Is this a feature that you wish to add to a program that you are developing or are you wondering how other programs provide such a feature?

The main approach is that the program will link with an update server. The program will connect to the update server an it will tell the update server the version that is running on your computer (say version 1.0.7) The server will look up what is the current version is (say version 1.0.8) and if necessary it will send a message back telling the program that there is an update available. The program on your computer will then pop up a message telling you that an update is available.
