Applet works on Windows, Ubuntu and Mac, but not on Redhat and Fedora

Hi,

I am having an applet which uses AWT and has a functionality of opening up a web page dynamically. The applet also has its own menu bar. This functionality works fine on Windows, Mac and Ubuntu client machines, but the menu bar goes away when I open the web page using same functionality on Redhat 5 and Fedora 9 client machines. Moreover I am also getting an InterruptedThread exception on these machines. I am using Sun JVM 1.6.0_07 and Mozilla Firefox 3 browser with Sun Java plug-in on all my Linux client machines.

It seems that the http connection is getting reset when I use the web page functionality in my applet, but this is just a prediction. The functionality also works fine in Opera browser on Redhat.

For security reasons I cannot share the code. Can anyone please guide me to understand this inconsistent behavior and help me resolve this issue.

Thanks,
Bhaskar.

Check java -version. Are you sure that it is not using openJDK or gcj instead of the sun jdk. Opera tends to figure these out itself but firefox is quit insistent about using only the default system jdk .

After installing the sun java you probably need to change the PATH to pick up the sun version first.

After installing 1.4 plug-in in Firefox on Redhat the functionality is working fine. On Ubuntu I have 1.6 but it does not have any issues. Can anyone explain whats wrong with 1.6 plugin on Redhat?
