alloc_page and alloc_pages

hello everybody ,
i want to allocate a page in KERNEL module so i am using the core function

struct page *alloc_pages(unsigned int gfp_mask,unsigned int order);

and using as page = alloc_pages(GFP_KERNEL,1);

which is returning me a negative value .. i am confused about the whole stuff

error values are negative in the linux kernel as defined in <linux/error.h>.
