Arrow A search for comments and ideas in a GNU Paint bug

Hello.

I have found an open bug of GNU Paint that looks simple, but it has got no visible atention for almost 2 years. I am not sure what the problem is either. But I am hoping that around here someone should know something, or point to new ideas.

The bug description is at https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/index.php?43312 , and I repeat it here to justify the existence of this thread.

========
Today I tried to compile gpaint, but after doing a 'git clone' I couldn't run ./configure.

The error shown:

==============================
$./configure
configure: error: cannot run /bin/bash ./config.sub
==============================

After switching computers, trying again and the problem repeating, I figured out:

==============================
$ls -l
config.guess -> /usr/share/automake-1.13/config.guess
config.sub -> /usr/share/automake-1.13/config.sub
depcomp -> /usr/share/automake-1.13/depcomp
ltmain.sh -> /usr/share/libtool/config/ltmain.sh
missing -> /usr/share/automake-1.13/missing
==============================

The files that were symbolic links were all broken. But the machines have automake installed! So I checked the dirs that symlinks wanted.

To make it short, different versions of automake were present, on both machines (previous and following versions, by the way; e.g., 1.11 and 1.4).

I don't know why this happens, but I guess it shouldn't.

Looks like they've already fixed this. None of those files are symlinks if you clone the current repository.

However, the solution to the reported problem is to execute
Code:
automake --add-missing
which will create symlinks to the autotools files on the respective machine. In this case, the "bug" reporter stated they had automake-1.11 installed. Had they run the above command, the broken symlinks would have been removed and replaced with symlinks to the files in /usr/share/automake-1.11.

Thank you both. But a special thank for you, weibullguy.

Indeed it seems that is is fixed. But the "not a real bug" was still open, so I did not test it again before I created this post.
