mac os x: how to let irc server listen to port 6667

I've just compiled ratbox ircd for my Mac OS X 10.3.8 system. I'm running it as normal user, but can't connect to it. I assume that this is due to the port being blocked - how can I set it to listen on 6667?

Edit: Rephrased the header as I don't think the answer depends on which particular irc daemon I'm using.

You could add a ipfw rule like :
ipfw add allow tcp from any to any 6667 in
