WinXP networking

----------- This a bit OFF topic -------------------
i thouth this was for other OS's like topic...
--------------------------------------------------------

This can be VERY stupid for most of you but i have in my laptop and in my desktop Windows XP sp2 and i can't make the two pc's work with one another... i can't see the default admin share c$ i have them connected with a direct cross-link cable ... and know i have tried using a switch with normal ethernet cables... but the result is the same... it gives an error saying something like this: the path was not found... don't have permissions to... :/

i think i have something not configured in my laptop because i use also at my work a wireless connection and i have noticed that when i do a ipconfig /all i gives a peer-to-peer as node type and i think it should not be like that...

how can i configure my network properly?

ps: i have also linux on both pc's and i know that i can connect with both pc's with it but i really need to connect with XP...

Spooky out

Wow, that is the exact opposite issue I have with my debian server. I can't connect to it, but oddly enough I can connect to my Windows machine no troubles.

What kind of firewall are you using...just the windows sp2? or do you hae zonealarm too? And how high are the settings?

That can make a large difference.

Also try turning on iTunes on both machines. If the iTunes programs can't see each other, well you might have some problems with the firewall then.

also try turning it off completely (DISSCONNECT THE COMPUTERS FROM THE INTERNET TO DO THIS!) and then slowly upping the security

I don't think it's a firewall issue i'v tryed everything... even with no firewall there is the same problem... i think the problem is the right configuration in windows networking ... i'v got some nice sites about it ...
