What is the prime difference between Sys 3,Sys V and System7 version of UNIX
I heard that SystemV is the milestone in UNIX history . What is meant by these System 3,System V and System 7 ,are these version releases like Linux distribution releases ?? Why Linux is Sys V based as I heard of .?
Please provide some insight into this. Sorry if i'm wrong ,just trying to learn. Thanks In Advance. |
That's a bit like asking "What's the difference between a Ford Model T, a 1941 Plymouth, and a 1957 Studebaker?"
They're all classics - and I'd be reluctant to take any of 'em out on a contemporary urban freeway at rush hour ;) PS: No: "ATT System V" is not any more "The Milestone" than BSD 4.3, or SVR4, or any number of other "milestones". Including Linux 2.6 ;) PPS: You might be interested in this page: Computer History Wiki Or this one: http://www.georgehernandez.com/h/xCo...ix/Default.asp |
