is it possible to use SAM administration tool under HP-UX operating system to test modem or any other piece of equipment that is connected to serial port?
If you open SAM (GUI) then select "Peripheral Devices" icon you can then select "Terminals and Modems" and do configuration tasks there.
Or you could use command line utility "cu" to attach to the device. This is how I used to set modem options and do testing though its been quite a while since I've done much with modems.
Also you can use the stty command to condition and read settings of the modem line.
